Serving
on the Education Appropriations Committee, Representative
Morgan is the leading advocate for reducing class sizes and
improving reading achievement. She passed legislation to
create the University of Utah Reading Clinic and to require
elementary schools to form reading achievement plans. She
has worked to increase teacher quality and pay. She
believes we must provide all children with the tools
necessary to compete in a global economy, such as smaller
class sizes, adequate textbooks and classroom supplies,
quality teachers and a comfortable, safe environment in
which to learn and grow. She also believes the Legislature
should take a leadership role in providing long-term plans
for education just as they do for highways.
Representative Morgan recently received recognition for her
100% voting record in favor of public education in the 2008
Legislative Session.
OPEN AND HONEST GOVERNMENT

LOWER TAXES
"Lowering taxes is important in
order to help families meet their expenses, grow and thrive
in our state. Senior citizens must not be taxed out of
their homes."

Representative Morgan has worked to cut government waste and
increase efficiency. Most recently, she voted to lower the
sales tax on food and to lower income taxes. She also voted
against both sales and property tax increases in the 2008
Legislative Session.

Karen
will continue to support business-friendly legislation. She
worked to create economic development incentives which have
strengthened Utah's tourism and motion picture industries.
Responsibly promoting and managing Utah's tourism industry
will continue to boost Utah's economy by millions of dollars
and provide necessary funds for Utah's developing
infrastructure and education needs.

Representative Morgan believes
in promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing health
insurance costs for individuals and small businesses. She
is working with members of the Healthcare Reform Task Force
and healthcare providers to ensure that legislation making
healthcare more accessible and affordable is introduced in
the upcoming legislative session.
