Dear Friends,
 

Many have asked why I am a Democrat.  The answer is simple.  Although no one political party has all of the answers, I believe Utah Democrats better represent mainstream Utah values, such as family, education, hard work, integrity, freedom and personal responsibility.

 

Utah Democrats believe in bringing people together, in uniting to strengthen our communities and in protecting our quality of life.  We try to ensure that every child has access to a top quality education through strong public schools and universities.  We work to provide public safety and adequate infrastructure.  We believe in compassionately giving those in need a hand up, not a handout. Utah Democrats want to protect natural resources and the environment for future generations, and we respect the freedom of each individual.  We believe that everyone should have the right to live as they choose, as long as they don't interfere with the rights of others.

 

As a Utah Democrat on Capitol Hill for the past 10 years, I have had the freedom and flexibility necessary to vote my conscience and represent the best interests of my constituents on every issue without fear of retaliation from party leadership.  After all, representing the people is not about partisan politics.  It's about you -- your schools, your taxes and your quality of life.  It's about working together, regardless of party affiliation, to do what's best for Utah.
